Paul and Patty Nutter have been residents of Ritchie County most of their lives. In fact, Patty was born at home near where their farm home on Cantwell is now. Paul was born in Veto, Ohio, but moved to Ritchie County early in life.

After marriage, they lived in a comfortable home in Cairo. Patty attended Nursing school at Camden Clark Memorial Hospital and was employed at Colin-Anderson Center, Saint Marys until becoming the Ritchie County Schools Health Nurse which led to her "retirement". Paul retired from Cytec, formerly American Cyanamid, Willow Island.

Both of them were among the first volunteers at Ritchie County Emergency Medical Services and Paul was on the first Board of Directors. It was there that young David learned to play cards with K.P Goodnight and others; the favorite was "go fish" and other basics.

When old enough, David also became a member of the squad until it became a paid organization and redesignated as Ritchie County Ambulance Authority.

Teresa became a Registered Nurse and married Frank McDonald. They moved to Cairo on the land where Grandma Nellie lived; only one block from where Paul and Patty had their home.
